Games - Temple Run

Temple run is a super popular game that tops the free charts on the app store. It involves fast thinking and good reaction time. The concept of the game is very basic. You are a explorer and you have found a mysterious golden idol. You want to capture it but savage demon monkeys are chasing after you.

The game starts of fairly slow with a few jumps and very easy turns. Soon the game starts getting fast paced and the action begins. There are new obstacles and different environments and you have to start turning you character quicker and reacting fast. Then the path starts getting all demented and has huge gaps and jumps with tricky situations. Though the simple concept this game has been here for years accumulating download after download.

Also there is a shop in temple run where you can purchase upgrades, utilities, characters and wallpapers for your device. Each character has a different running style and soon you will get suited to a character. The starting character is guy dangerous and he is the guy on the top of the page holding the idol. Then it is Scarlett Fox, Karma Lee, Montana Smith, Francisco Montoya, Zac Wonder and then Barry Bones.

In some cases powerups are very useful. The Mega Coin powerup gives you a coin boost to fet you more points and coins. The Coin Magnet is another coin powerup. This draws coins near to you picking up the coins that you have missed. If further upgraded then it can also triple the coin value. A great powerup to have if you want to relax for a while is Invisibility. In this powerup you will pass right through obstacles and walk over them instead of having to jump or duck. If your finger or fingers get sore then this is a great powerup to have. The only thing is you have to turn the character still. A great powerup for getting ahead is the boost. This works well if you are trying to get an objective that asks you to run a distance. It turns automatically and you past right through and above obstacle just like in invisibility.  Also you can upgrade your coin values to double or even triple each 1,000 m. The coins that are special appear in different colours.

To get the achievement 'The Glitch' you have to enable the tutorial and then when you are about to turn then you have to quickly double swipe. Then you will have a straight path for a while but if you upgraded temple run on your device or bought it recently this will not work. Instead you will get 'The Glitch' achievement.

Getting achivements will increase your multiplier and then this will increase your total score. In the beginning try to aim for the achievements instead of getting a better score as the achievements will help you get a better score.

Also the sequel to Temple Run is here and you probably guessed it is...

The game is the same concept but with much improved graphics and a new fab location. In this one you are getting chased by a huge demon monkey! Reviews about this game think its slow but the awesome graphics and new locations compensate for that. Now you can go on minecarts swing from ropes and other awsome things! You can even go up hills! Temple Run through is definetly better at graphics but the performance is poor and also the shop navigation and content is only just satisfactory. Also there is no menu at the start of the game where you can access objectives and stats because you have to finish a run before you can access any of these.

The reaction time you need is definetly much quicker because sometimes in the game there are unexpected turnings that is why you have to be doubly alert. Also sometimes the scenery blocks the vision of the path so you don't know where the path will lead but over time you will get better at figuring that out.

The one thing I am disappointed about in TR 2 is the shop. The shop in TR 1 is much easier to figure out then the shop in TR 2. In TR 2 you have to upgrade every character so you have to get more money. Also the ability upgrades are more expensive which is a real pain because there are a lot of things to upgrade to just get one character good. The character detail is quite impressive but its performance poor. I would recommend that you aim for getting the character you want then try to get your upgrades.

Overall I think TR 2 is a great game but it needs a few changes. This game is by far more realistic as no - one would want to build a straight wall for such a long while.

Thanks for reading and I hope you found it interesting. Here is my rating.
