Zap - Quick Bird facts


Hey everybody are you guys all doing well? 

Todays Zap is about birds. This was again requested by a blog viewer so if you want your topic on the Zap posts please leave a comment in the section below and it will definetly be researched and put up on the blog. 

So now back onto the Zap and we are talking about birds according to wikipedia birds are feathered, winged, bipedal, endothermic, egg-laying, vertebrate animals. With around 10,000 living species, they are the most speciose class of tetrapod vertebrates. I know this might be a mouthful or a brainful for some of you guys but I'm sure you will understand at least a few if not all of the words. After the twenty facts I'll give you the meaning of these words but I hope you like the Zap.

1. The wandering albatross has the largest wingspan of any living

2. A hummingbird’s wings beat between 50 and 200 flaps per second depending on the direction of flight and air conditions. 

3. An average hummingbird’s heart rate is more than 1,200 beats per minute. 

4. Because the hummingbird can rotate its wings in a circle, they are the only bird that can fly forwards, backwards, up, down, sideways and  hover in mid air.

6. There are over 60 different species of eagle!

7. Falcons come in 37 different species, they spread throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia and North America.

9. According to the BBC, the oldest parrot on record is a Blue and Gold Macaw named Charlie. Charlie is reported to have been owned by Winston Churchill, and is believed to be 104 years of age. Source: http://birds.about.com

bipedal : two legs
endothermic : requires heat to live
egg-laying : lays eggs
vertabrae : with a spine
